Dr. Kari Johnson
Founder and Teacher
Kari Johnson grew up in a small town in Mid-Missouri. She fell in love with the piano as young child at her first piano lesson, and her affection for performance and practice has been a driving force in her life ever since.
Kari has extensive experience teaching both in groups and online. As a group teacher she was selected as the Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year at UMKC. In course review, students and mentors praised her for her warm and engaging personality, and her persistence in student achievement. Additionally, she is a "Five Apple Teacher" on the online English Teaching Platform VIPKid.
Dr. Johnson holds degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from the University of Central Missouri, Bowling Green State University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, where she received her Doctorate in 2013. During and after her studies she worked with composers and premiered and performed new works across the US, in Europe, and Asia.
Kari is active as an adjudicator, volunteer, and is a former president of the Kansas City Music Teacher's Association. She is an active competitor in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and also trains capoeira. In her spare time she enjoys cheese, travel, and hanging out with her cats.
